19th Century Carved Face Buttons

Set of 3 carved buttons from the late 1800s. Hand carved, each face is slightly different. Likely Makonde from Tanzania. Painstakingly carved from a single block of Sumaumeira Brava wood, they mad represent spirits ('shetani'), ancestors, or living characters. Each has a small hook on the back for threading/ hanging. No chips or repairs, natural variations in the wood.
